The Beginner Prepper Checklist Of Supplies

You don't need to follow the news carefully to know that we are living in perilous times. Regardless of whether it is a problem with social unrest, natural disasters or political upheaval, our lives can change in the blink of an eye. Some people tend to turn a blind eye to the situation, feeling as if they will be cared for by the powers that be, but others recognize the need to take responsibility for their own safety and security. When they take action, they are known as preppers.

The first step in preparing for a world altering event is to take stock of your personal situation. You will then be in a much better position to consider the preppers supplies that you would need to survive. These are going to differ from one individual to the next but when you consider the beginner prepper checklist of supplies below, you will be in a much better position to get started.

Before we begin, it is good to consider both the storage of these items and where to purchase them. Some may be found in your local area but others are better purchased through preppers supplies and equipments shops that specialize in such items. Not only do they have the supplies you need, they also have the knowledge that will allow you to take your preparedness to the next level.

You should also consider the possible length of time that you might be living off the grid. At a bare minimum, you should accumulate enough preppers supplies to last for everyone in your household for 72 hours. From that point, you can aquire supplies to last for months, years or to make you self reliant. The choice is yours.

The Beginner Prepper Checklist Of Supplies:

1. Water - The most important thing you will need is water. For short terms use, a minimum of one gallon of water daily per person should be stored. It can be stored in gallon jugs or larger or in smaller bottles. A camelBak is also good to have on hand in case you need to evacuate the area. Make sure you rotate your stock of water regularly.

Although it may be possible to store water in this way for short term usage, preparing for a longer need requires a different approach. This may include rain gutter catchers, a bathtub water storage liner and multiple water purification methods.

2. Food - Having enough food on hand is essential for your survival and to keep your strength up during difficult times. It is also going to take up the most room out of all of the preppers supplies you will have on hand. Make sure you keep things organized and stored in the proper containers so they last in storage. Set up a schedule to rotate your food regularly.

The following are basic food supplies. They are listed in weight according to an individual's needs for one month.

Grains - 30 lbs: Rice, pasta, oats, cereal, corn meal, etc.

Legumes - 10 lbs: black beans, kidney beans, lentils, etc.

Dairy - 2 lbs: Powdered milk, cheese, powdered butter, etc.

Meat - 2 lbs: Powdered eggs, tuna, beef/chicken/ham (canned or freeze dried)

Fats - 2 lbs: Cooking oil, mayo, peanut butter

Sugars - 5 lbs: sugar, corn syrup, honey, canned fruit, powdered fruit drinks.

Vegetables - 5 lbs: Freeze dried, canned or dehydrated

3. Energy - There are many options for alternative energy sources for living off-grid. They include generators, solar, batteries and car power inverters. It is also good to have a power inverter for energy storage. These can be purchased through preppers supplies and equipment shops.

4. Fuel - When most people consider the beginner prepper checklist of supplies, they are automatically going to think of gasoline. It is important to have some on hand and to keep the gas tank in the car full but it is only one of the sources of fuel to having on hand. Others include, charcoal briquettes, firewood (including chain saw, hatchet or axe), matches, lighters and fire starters.

5. First Aid - You can find many options for first aid kits where you buy preppers supplies. Some of the options to consider include pain killers, antibiotics, antihistamine, anti-constipation or diarrhea, anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamins and prescriptions. This can be expanded according to your needs.

6. Warmth - Include off-grid heaters, sleeping bags, blankets and warm clothing.

7. Hygiene - Any basic daily needs, including toothbrush/toothpaste, comb, soap, toilet paper and deodorant. Include other items, such as hand sanitizer, baby wipes, sanitary pads, lotion, scissors and tweezers.

8. Communication - Include options for off-grid communication, such as ham or short wave radio. Keep a cell phone charged for use and a method of charging off-grid. Other items include whistles, flares and walkie-talkies.

9. Light - Include off-grid sources of light, such as candles, lantern and flashlights (including extra batteries).

There are other options you could include on your beginner prepper checklist of supplies, such as financial information, spare cash, kitchen supplies and items for personal protection. As you continue to prepare to survive any potential problem, you will feel confident in the fact that you are growing something that will be of benefit to you and your family.
